Inside, Old Salty´s is nice, with around ten tables where you can sit and enjoy a fish supper. They also offer take away for those on the go. The space is not big, and if you are sitting with several others you may struggle to get out and a couple of people may need to more to let you out. But apart from that they have a very friendly staff, and the atmosphere is cozy and warm.
First of all I should say I am a vegetarian, although occasionally (very, very occasionally) I eat fish. Well, I am sorry to say Old Salty´s is not the best place to go to if you are a vegetarian. I ate the vegetarian sausages, the only veggie dish on the menu, and ask them not to deep fried them. I got three sausages on top of a plateful of chips, which were very nice.
If you eat meat or fish you will be pleased to hear that the menu offers quite some options. From pies to the famous fish and chips, you will be able to find something you like. All the people I went with other the cod, which is the most typical fish to have. They all loved it and said it reminded them of the one their mothers and grandmothers used to make. Which in my opinion it is a great thing, as anything that resembles home cooking is always nice and comforting.
I would love them to add a couple of more things for vegetarians, but even so I think this is a great place to go when in Glasgow, as it is not expensive, the food is good, and it is not your usual greasy fish and damp soft chips, but a high quality one.
Scores:
Food: 6 for me but 8 for the people I was with. As I said, another vegetarian option will be greatly appreciated.
Service: 7
Location: 9
Atmosphere: 7
Will come back? Not at the moment, as I can only choose one dish, but hopefully soon if they expand their menu.
PS. Apologies for the quality of the photos, these were taken with my iPhone and they are not the best!
I hope you enjoyed today´s post.
