What to Buy this Week: Jelly Shoes

For the What to Buy this Week section I bring more of a debate than an actual buy. I keep seeing people wearing these jelly shoes in the city, and I am really not sure I agree much with this trend.

I mean, when I was a kid I used to wear these shoes when, or I was going to a beach with cobbles instead of sand, or when there were problems at the beach with a particular type of fish. And on both occasions these shoes were very uncomfortable!

These days I see people wearing heeled ones (really!), wearing them with normal outfits and even with socks. For me these jelly shoes are the equivalent of wearing Cloggs in town. Years ago on a trip to the beach I had to buy a pair as my flip flops killed my feet and couldn´t even walk. I have to say Cloggs are some of the most comfortable shoes I have ever wore, HOWEVER I would never ever wear them in the city, or to work (even if I had a really cool and trendy job). And with the jelly shoes I have exactly the same feeling.

These jelly shoes are for the beach, even a swimming pool if you insist, but for the city, REALLY?? And unless you are a fashionable teenager who-can-pull-any-outfit, don´t buy them, please. And it gets worst with the heeled and platform options. I have no words to describe those, so I leave you with the photos instead.

Asos£18

Schuh£24

Zara£9.99

I have another favour to ask you. Never wear them like this, please!

The only "jelly" shoes I like are these Vivienne Westwood ones, and I don´t even know if they are considered to be jelly shoes!

So now, question time! What do you think of these jelly shoes? Do you like them? When and how would you wear them? Did you use to wear them as a kid too?

Thank you very much for reading!

What to Buy this Week: White Dresses

There is nothing better than white dresses during the summer months. They look great on a tanned skin, flats or heels, and are perfect for the day and night. For all those reasons white dresses are a must - have for the summer.

White dresses can also be a transition piece from summer to winter, as by adding black tights, a jacket and a pair of boots or heels, the dresses will look amazing as well.

I hope you like this selection of dresses for all budgets!

 Johnny Was, $347

Mango£24.99 (on sale at the moment)

People Tree£65

Sheinside, $24.55 (on sale)

Zara£29.99

Isabel Marant£790

You can´t go wrong accessories these dresses, but my personal choice for the day is with a pair of white sandals, a hippy style clutch (like the ones I talked about in this post) and some colourful bracelets.

And for the night I would wear it with a pair of heeled sandals in a bright colour, a statement necklace and a simple clutch, as I would want all the looks to go to the necklace and/or the shoes.

I hope you enjoyed this post, and that you have your white dress ready for this summer!

What to Buy this Week: Ethnic Handbag

I have decided to create a new category on the blog: What to Buy this Week. Here I would like to show you what I think the must haves are, and give you keys on where to find them and how to combine them. I really hope you enjoy this new section, and please feel free to leave any feedback!

Now that the temperatures are higher and we can enjoy blue skies often, it is the moment to wear more colourful clothes and accessories, and also lighter fabrics.

These type of ethnic handbags are great to take to the beach or the swimming pool, and the clutches will give you an extra special touch for those summer nights! I think that (if combined properly) these bags can lift any look.

As they are very colourful, always remember that less is more, and try wear them with some basics. Any of these ethnic handbags will look amazing when combined with just a pair of jeans or shorts and a white tee. For the night, a dress in a light fabric like cotton or silk, in only one colour will make the bag stand up.

There is a wide range of prices for these handbags, and of course those high quality handmade ones are going to be more expensive than the ones you can buy in places like River Island or Accessorize.

Or if you love travelling the best thing is to buy them in India, Mexico, Peru, Kenya... This way you won´t only have an ethnic handbag, but a great souvenir to carry around with you.

These ethnic handbags are all gorgeous, practical and perfect for the summer months. I hope you like them!

5 Reasons Why You Should Go To Glasgow This Summer

1. The Commonwealth Games

The first reason why you should go to Glasgow this summer is pretty simple, the Commonwealth Games are taking place at the end of July beginning of August and the city will transform itself completely. Athletes from 71 nations will be competing in this event, from athletics to rugby and swimming, will you mist it?

If you don´t have tickets yet and you are reading this, you are in luck as over 100,000 more extra tickets will be on sale as for today! Good luck!

2. The Cultural Programme

Ok, so you don´t like sports and the Commonwealth Games is not a good enough reason to go to Glasgow this summer. Don´t worry, the Cultural Programme may be your reason to go! Glasgow will host hundreds of cultural events for all tastes and ages, and in different places across the city. There will be movies, theatre, visual arts, music, dance... I am sure you will be able to find one that appeals to you!

3. Summer Sessions

For the younger people out there this might be your reason to go to Glasgow, the Summer Sessions. At the moment there are only two acts confirmed, but keep checking as more will be announced soon. Plus, even if there are only two, what a pair! French DJ David Guetta and American band The Killers. This event will take place in Bellahouston Park and promises to be a night you will always remember.

4. World Pipe Band Championships

If you love Bagpipes, this is your reason to go to Glasgow this summer! Friday the 15th and Saturday the 16th of August are the days when you can enjoy seeing hundreds of pipers showing their abilities. At the World Pipe Band Championships there will be bands from tons of different countries in this colourful and noisy event.

If you suffer from headaches maybe stay several miles away from Glasgow Green!

5. The Edinburgh Fringe Festival

I know, this is not taking place in Glasgow. BUT, taking into account the ridiculously high prices the hotels will have in Edinburgh during the month of August, I totally recommend staying in Glasgow and taking the train (yes, there are extended timetables). Apart from the hotel prices, Edinburgh gets so full of tourists it is difficult to walk, go to a cafe or get some peace and quiet. That is why I recommend Glasgow.

From the 1st to the 25th of August, Edinburgh will host thousands of events during its annual Fringe Festival, some even for free! If you walk down the Royal Mile you will end up with hundreds of leaflets advertising all types of shows/restaurants/pubs/cafes... Anything basically. But if you decide to stay in Glasgow and just travel certain days, you will be in a much relaxed atmosphere, and won´t have to queue for everything. All advantages!

What do you think? Are these good enough reasons for you to go to Glasgow in the summer?
